Africatown Hosts First Health & Wellness Network Meetup
Focus on community health from prenatal to elderly

The first Africatown Health & Wellness Network Meetup was held Saturday, Jan 19th at Africatown Center for Education & Innovation (ACEI) in South Seattle. The purpose of the event was to begin to map the ecosystem of health professionals, organizations, and community resources committed to health and wellness in the Black community from prenatal to elder care.

Attendees included Psychologists, Psychotherapists, chemical dependency professionals, social workers, case managers, fitness trainers, elders, and concerned community members.

There was a strong focus on mental health as Dr. Orisade Awodola, founder of the Institute for African Centered Thought, presented the vision for a Black Integrative Healing Center that is set to launch in 2020 and will serve the community in the Seattle area and beyond.

Meeting attendees and community stakeholders were excited to be in the room together and have an opportunity to network as well as start the process of aligning a strategy to elevate health outcomes for our community.
